  1. 1951The first fair was held behind the Ahtanum Grange with cardboard ribbons, a parade, and a watermelon-eating contest for local 4-H children. westvalleyfair.org
  2. 1958The West Valley Fair added a horse show, home-economics exhibits, livestock auction, FFA exhibitors, and entries from the broader West Valley. westvalleyfair.org
  3. 1959The first royalty contest crowned as queen the contestant who sold the most raffle tickets, with runners-up serving as princesses. westvalleyfair.org
  4. 1961The fair expanded to three days in 1961, four in 1962, and five in 1964, largely because its horse show required two days for more than 100 exhibitors and nearly 200 horses. westvalleyfair.org
  5. 1965A new barn was built for the livestock entries; it moved in 1969 and became the steer barn. westvalleyfair.org
  6. 1969The West Valley Fair moved to the Tampico Saddle Club grounds in Wiley City, its present location, and drew an estimated 6,000 people over four days. westvalleyfair.org
  7. 1974Construction began on the Blue Barn in 1974 and was completed in 1977. westvalleyfair.org
  8. 1980sA bad economy and lack of volunteers were among the reasons given for a decline that brought the fair close to cancellation; in 1988 only 29 animals went through the auction. westvalleyfair.org
  9. 1990sA resurgence of volunteers saved the fair, and livestock entries rebounded from 29 in 1988 to hundreds by the middle of the 1990s. westvalleyfair.org
