Terms of use
The Long Way is a free guide to places in the western states, compiled from the places’ own pages, agency pages, and association registers. Reading it needs no account. Using it means taking it on these terms.
Confirm before you go
Entries can be out of date. Hours, seasons, fees, gates, and dates change, and a place can close between the day its entry was checked and the day you arrive. Where a fact could not be found in a source, the entry leaves it out instead of guessing. Before a long drive, confirm with the place itself; each entry links to its own page and its sources.
The road is yours
Back roads, hot springs, trails, lookouts, and collecting areas carry real risk: weather, washouts, fire closures, no phone signal, and water too hot to touch. The guide is not a road report or a safety notice. Check conditions with the agency in charge, travel prepared, and keep off private land and closed ground. The agency that manages a public collecting area sets its collecting rules.
No warranty
The guide is offered as it stands, without warranty of any kind. As far as the law allows, The Long Way is not liable for any loss, harm, or wasted trip that comes from relying on an entry.
Words and pictures
The text of the guide is its own work. Quote it with a link to the entry, and ask before you republish entries whole. Photographs belong to the people credited beside them; if one is yours and you want it taken down, write to hello@thelongway.guide. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, drawn from OpenMapTiles through OpenFreeMap.
Independence
The guide is independent of the places it lists. A listing is neither an endorsement nor a partnership.
Questions about these terms go to hello@thelongway.guide. The privacy notice covers what the site and its hosts collect. These terms were last changed on October 13, 2026.
