Getting there
From Ely, head south towards Cave Lake State Park and follow the road over Success Summit. The road takes you into the backside of McGill, which is located just 12 miles north of Ely on Highway 93.
Access
Paved near the start, then transitions to a well-maintained dirt road and gravel over Success Summit; sits at high elevation where weather can often be unpredictable year-round.

Notable Events

  1. 1939The Cave Lake Reservoir was originally built in 1939 by the Isbell Construction Company to store water for the CCC Ranch in Steptoe Valley. parks.nv.gov
  2. 1961In 1961 work was done on the dam to enlarge it to 364 feet in length and 60 feet in height. parks.nv.gov
  3. 1973In 1968 all 1,240 acres of the park were sold to the Nevada Department of Fish and Game; in 1973 the Nevada Legislature transferred the land to the Nevada Division of State Parks. parks.nv.gov
