Getting there
Forest Service Trail 1169 (Hot Springs Trail) is open to hiking and biking from Elk River Road and Mad Creek Trailhead; hikers must check in with the attendant and pay admission; the final two road miles are unpaved, steep, and winding but regularly maintained.
Fees
$30 per adult / $20 for children 17 and under; 2-hour reservation slots; cash only, no credit cards, checks, or ATM on site.
Access
Winter traction law November through May: 4WD/AWD vehicles with snow tires and/or chains required; standard vehicles can usually access in summer; the road is unpaved for 2 miles. After dark the pools are clothing-optional and adults only; children welcome in daytime. No pets. Bring a headlamp for walking between parking and cabins.
