- From Alturas, California, travel South on U.S. Highway 395 for 18 miles to the town of Likely and Turn left (East) onto County Rd 64. Continue for 9 miles toward Jess Valley and stay right at the fork toward Blue Lake (Blue Lake Road), this road is not maintained for winter travel.

- $75/night for up to 8 persons. Group members beyond 8 persons will need to stay in the adjacent campground ($15/night). Maximum consecutive stay of 7 nights (14 nights per year total).
- Access
- Pavement ends about 6.5 miles past the Blue Lake fork, where the road becomes Forest Road 39N01 (South Warner Road); 7.5 miles on, turn north at the Patterson Campground sign onto Forest Road 39N28 and stay left.

Built in 1921, Patterson Guard Station supported the Modoc National Forest's fire program until 1981. With recent renovations completed, the guard station is now available for overnight rentals.
