Nunn Days begins with a parade. In 2026 the parade stepped off at ten o’clock on Saturday, August 22, and the festival that followed filled Veterans Park, at 351 Lincoln Avenue, until four. The Town of Nunn hosts it. Ahead of the 2026 day the town had the park sprayed for mosquitoes twice, on Wednesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 19.
Food trucks and food vendors serve through the day, local vendors sell their goods, and a DJ plays a variety of music from opening to close. Most of the program is free. Carriage rides run from 10:30 to 12:30 and bingo from 11 to 1. A jumping castle stays up all day, and a petting zoo and face painting run from 11 to 3. The fire department sets up an obstacle course for children. There are horseshoes and tug-of-war, both free, and corn hole, the one game on the 2026 list without the free mark. The car show also runs from 11 to 3. Walking in costs nothing, entering a vehicle costs nothing, and owners can register the day of. At two o’clock comes the tree planting for Arbor Day. After the 2026 festival, Nunn Days T-shirts went on sale at Town Hall for $10.
For a number of years the children had another ride. Merl Stryker was born in Denver in 1949 and raised on the family farm northwest of Haxtun. He loved farming and running heavy equipment, and the scraper was his favorite. He worked for Lawson Construction in Denver for several years and preached at the Church of the Brethren in Haxtun. He liked to tinker, and out of a lawn mower and plastic drums he designed and built a train. He gave children rides on it at the Nunn Days celebration. He died at his home in Nunn on March 31, 2020. In lieu of flowers, his obituary asked for contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Children’s Hospital Colorado.
