From Forest Service Road 10138, go 14.3 miles and turn left on Smiths Fork Road/FS-10072; after 0.6 miles turn left on La Barge Guard Station Road/FS-10077 and continue to the road end.

Notable Events

  1. 1912The Forest Service built a small log cabin on the site to monitor tie-hacking operations in the LaBarge Creek drainage. npshistory.com
  2. 1933The earlier Forest Service cabin was dismantled and the CCC built a bunkhouse, latrine, and shed in its place. npshistory.com
  3. 1935Small landscape improvements were made to the site: corrals, fences, driveway, and walkways. npshistory.com
  4. 1990sThe Forest Service removed the old latrine when it built a new one sympathetic with the historic buildings; otherwise the station has changed little. npshistory.com
