Shortly after milepost 15 on Highway 58, eastbound out of Eugene, a pull-off opens on the right. The spring is at its south-west edge, close to the road. The water runs year-round and comes out cool. People stop to fill jugs. On April 3, 2025, a nearby resident who posts as dexterlocal watched a truck driver load several.
The spring is easy to miss. A commenter who often drives this road to Corvallis wrote in April 2023 that it “does seem hard to find when you’re traveling at 55-60 miles per hour.” Another, Madelyn, wrote in September 2025 that the pull-off sits right up against the highway, and she advised stopping only in daylight with good visibility.
The name comes from Find A Spring, a site where users list and rate springs. A user called emma submitted this one as Refreshing Local Spring. In December 2023 a commenter asked why it was not called Lookout Point Spring, since it lies at Lookout Point on Highway 58. Where the water comes from is also an open question. In June 2021 Gabrielle asked whether it was creek runoff, because topo maps show no spring at the spot. In September 2026 Jason, whose family has drunk from it for years, asked whether it is an artesian source or “just a seep thats was tapped into.”
Madelyn wrote that locals test the water regularly, and they post the results on the site. Results were uploaded on December 24, 2023, and again on April 16, 2025. Dexterlocal, who caught giardia a decade earlier, reported “outstanding results” and still treats the water with an ultraviolet pen before drinking it. In February 2026 Rebecca reported a lab test that found no bacteria and no nitrates. It did find arsenic at .00542 mg/L, about half the EPA maximum of .01. She noted that a 2023 test from Thurston’s lab had come back with a warning about arsenic. She drinks the water anyway, mostly straight from her glass jug. Jason’s comment ends: “We love this water and hope the spot can be protected.”
