Notable Events

  1. 1918The first fair drew 112 exhibitors entering 1,012 exhibits; $467 was raised, and all agricultural exhibits were sold for the benefit of the Red Cross. pocfair.com
  2. 1919The fair committee for the second fair grew from seven to twenty members. pocfair.com
  3. 1920The fair was growing and a 40x40 Agriculture building was constructed; every stall was filled with a purebred animal. pocfair.com
  4. 1921The fair had a 38 page premium book with many ads, and $555 in prize money was donated by businesses and individuals. pocfair.com
  5. 1931The newly formed Pend Oreille County Development League became the sponsor of the fair, which was held west of Cusick in a large barn with a circus tent rented from Spokane. pocfair.com
  6. 1933Thievery and some violence blemished this fair as the depression turned decent folk into hungry beggars who stole many food displays from exhibit booths; it was a record attendance year. pocfair.com
  7. 1938The fair moved to the present site, then the Cusick Town Park; several buildings and a rodeo arena were established, and the rodeo became an important part of the fair. pocfair.com
  8. 1941No fairs were held due to World War II. pocfair.com
  9. 1946The fair was revived by many after the war; the tradition of choosing a fair queen began with the selection of Miss Patty Brigham to reign as 1st Fair Queen, and Adam Wike reported a record attendance of 6,000. pocfair.com
  10. 1950sFair parades phased out and the county rodeo moved to a new and larger facility in Newport; fair participants opposed it and a small rodeo organized by the Cusick Rodeo Association was added to the fair agenda. pocfair.com
  11. 1980Pend Oreille County purchased the fairgrounds from the Town of Cusick. pocfair.com
