Season
The refuge's primary roads, Hart Mountain Road and Frenchglen Road, are maintained in the winter.
Getting there
From Lakeview, head north on US-395 toward South 1st St; the byway starts at the juncture of US-395 and OR-140, six miles north of town. From the east, take the highway south of Frenchglen, Oregon.
Fees
No fees along the byway itself.
Access
All road access is weather permitting; roads may be marked open yet become inaccessible; refuge roads can become hazardous and impassable from storms, drifting snow, or mud; little to no cell service and help could be hours away.

Waterfowl in the Warner Wetlands, the geologic escarpment at Hart Mountain and the National Antelope Refuge, and wide views of the high desert west of Steens Mountain.
